What is the European Accessibility Act?

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) — EU Directive 2019/882 — requires digital products and services to meet accessibility standards. Since June 28, 2025, it is enforceable across all 27 EU member states.

POUR Scoring

Get a score for each WCAG principle: Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, Robust. Know exactly where to focus.

Overlay Detection

We detect AccessiBe, UserWay, and other overlay widgets and flag them as a separate concern. Overlays are not compliance.

Penalties by country

Websites and e-commerce platforms must conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA — 50 success criteria covering perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust content. Non-compliance carries significant penalties. Each member state sets its own enforcement and fines, ranging from thousands to hundreds of thousands of euros.

Why not overlay widgets?

Overlay widgets (AccessiBe, UserWay, AudioEye) claim to make websites accessible with a single line of JavaScript. This is false. They add a cosmetic layer that does not fix underlying code issues.

The National Federation of the Blind, the European Disability Forum, and over 700 accessibility professionals have publicly opposed overlays. Multiple lawsuits have been filed against overlay users.

EAAPass detects overlay widgets during audits and flags them as a separate concern. Real accessibility requires real code changes.
